Topics of the Challenge:

  1. Designing optimal sensor positioning for medical equipment and surveillance systems

Supervisors: Dr. Balázs Ujvari, Dr. András Hajdu, Gergő Bogacsovics

Description: This task aims to determine the optimal position of sensors using machine learning tools in Unity. Among use cases, we want to focus on positioning sensors in medical (X-ray) equipment, providing the best coverage by a sensor network for finding radioactive sources in reactors or cities including mobile sensors attached to vehicles (cars/drones); other use cases may also be of interest. The role of prospective participants includes the 3D design of the scene and the whole process and the implementation of AI tools to find optimal sensor positions. The entire task can be divided into smaller subtasks according to the participants’ preferences.

  1. Reconstructing 3D human motion from 2D videos

Supervisors: Dr. András Hajdu, Dr. Tamás Bérczes

Description: The project's goal is to develop a system that can reconstruct the movements of humans and objects in 3D from 2D videos. Using existing AI tools such as OpenPose and AlphaPose to detect human movements in 2D is possible. We then can employ 3D reconstruction algorithms to convert this data. The results are to be integrated into a VR environment; the primary use case can be a soccer game.  The entire task can be divided into smaller subtasks according to the participants’ preferences.

  1. Designing VR games for checking the correct performance of gymnastics exercises

Supervisors: Dr. Attila Gilányi, Dr. Roland Kunkli

Description: The aim of this project is to create games in virtual reality for performing some special gymnastics exercises. The system developed has to be able to check the correctness of the exercises performed, and has to give feedback about that.

  1. Designing an interactive local soccer museum

Supervisors: Dr. Attila Gilányi, Dr. Roland Kunkli

Description: The goal of this project is to develop a system of objects and spaces in virtual reality presenting the history of a soccer team (important events, famous players, coaches and managers, buildings, pitches and stadiums connected to the team, etc.). The system has to contain interactive tools and elements that allow users to try out and practice certain game situations with some current and former players of the team (obviously, in a virtual form).

  1. Autonomous driving with 3D maps and environments

 Supervisors: Dr. Tien V. Do

Description: The goal of this project is to create the 3D map of the Kassai campus and the university in the first stage, for autonomous driving simulated cars based on AWSIM Labs (later, real cars).

  1.  Cyber-physical industrial environments

 Supervisors: Kapusi Tibor Péter

Description: The goal of the project is to create a virtual environment that which enables the simulation of robotic arms and manufacturing processes.

  1. Designing solutions for automating industrial robotic tasks

 Supervisors: Bogacsovics Gergő

Description: The goal of this project is to design and implement solutions for automating a specific industrial robotic task using machine learning and Unity. Participants are free to choose any existing heavy-duty robot, unmanned surface vehicle (USV), unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), or unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) model, or create their own robot to use as the base of their project.  Possible project ideas include solving tasks such as navigating in rough terrain or under challenging conditions, material handling, loading and unloading, packaging, inspection of products, defect detection, maintenance, or other parts of the manufacturing process.

  1. You can choose your own Topic

Please chose a supervisor and give us a title and a short description about it in the registration form.

Skills you would probably need:

  • Navigating the Unity interface
  • Debugging and problem-solving skills
  • Creating and evaluating code in C#
  • Appropriately controlling the behavior of objects in a virtual environment
  • Using and applying animations for models
  • Handling keyboard and mouse input of the user to create a real-time interactive application
  • Creating and identifying the behavior of user interface elements
