2. Formal Requirements of the Thesis

2.1. Title page (Appendices no.1)

The title page should provide the following information:

  • university, faculty, department (top of the page, in the middle)
  • title of the thesis (in the upper third, in the middle)
  • name of the candidate, name of the program (lower third, right side)
  • name and status of the supervisor (lower third, left side)
  • place (Debrecen) and year of submission (bottom of the page, in the middle)

The table of contents should be inserted after the title page, in decimal system.

2.2. Format

Margins

  • Margins should be set prior to word processing. Margins should be 2 cm on the right side and 3 cm on the left, upper and lower sides.

Type of print

  • When choosing the type of print the most important aspect should be readability. Type of print: Times New Roman.

Size of print

  • The best is to print the text of the thesis with the size 12 pt. By creating the title page and the headings 14 and 16 pt sized prints could be used.

Spacing

  • When choosing the spacing the most important aspect should be readability. Optimal spacing is 1.5.

2.3. Recommended Structure of the Thesis

Title

  • It should be short, comprehensible and should fairly express the content.

Table of contents

  • The thesis must have a table of contents page listing chapter headings, section headings and sub-headings, Appendices and references as well as their corresponding page number.

Introduction

  • You should explain the choice of the topic, its theoretical and practical importance, and formulate the targets and research methods (2-3 pages).

Body of the thesis (30-40 pages)

  • Its content depends on the supervisor and the candidate. Unfolding the topic. The thesis values more if not only Hungarian sources but foreign ones are used as well. We call your attention to the Internet sources and periodicals that are available in the faculty library.

Conclusion (2-3 pages)

  • Short and brief review of the important statements and consequences. In case any target is not managed to be proved, it has to be communicated bravely and unambiguously. (In case of an appropriate justification the value of the thesis is not decreased!)

Bibliography

  • Bibliography contains all kinds of book, periodical, electronic media references that are used in the process of thesis writing. It does not mean that all the used sources are cited, but all of them are used in the process of thesis writing. Recommended articulation is: – books, articles, essays – statistic sources – laws – INTERNET sources (in this case sources should be paid more attention, they should be handled as documents)

Appendices (max. 8-10 pages)

  • Appendices may be needed for charts, diagrams, documents related to questionnaire surveys, charts of statistical and mathematical surveys. In certain cases shorter textual documents may be put in this section (contract, parts of law etc.).

Acknowledgements

  • The candidate may say thanks to all who have supported him/her (with theoretical, practical or moral help) while writing the thesis.
