2019, February 27 - 15:26
The university of Debrecen has joined the Artificial Intelligence Coalition that seeks to promote research and use of artificial intelligence. UD may be involved in the activities of several working groups operating in the framework of the Coalition.

At the presidential voting held in January, the management of the AI Coalition approved the application of UD for joining the Hungarian AI Coalition by a majority. The professional representation of UD will be ensured by the Faculty of Informatics. György Vaszil, university professor at the Department of Computer Sciences explained to hirek.unideb.hu that UD would be involved in the activities of several working groups of the Coalition.

- At its first plenary meeting, the body decided to establish six working groups. Of these UD will participate in the work of the groups dealing with technology and security, data industry and data assets, international relations, education and awareness raising – said György Vaszil.

The Artificial Intelligence Coalition was established in October 2018 with over 70 members. The objective of the AI Coalition is to make Hungary one of the leading nations in Europe in terms of the development and use of AI, and to become an important member of the international AI community. Supported by the Digital Prosperity programme, the AI Coalition includes over 70 foreign and Hungarian companies, universities, science labs, as well as professional and administrative bodies.

- The establishment of the coalition reflects Hungary's answers to challenges posed by artificial intelligence through creating a platform for the cooperation of organisations working in the field. Today we are witnessing the 4th industrial revolution, which is characterised by the appearance and ever-more widespread use of intelligent and decision-making robots. It is important how we approach intelligent machines, and what legal and economic answers we can give to questions regarding their large-scale use – explained László Palkovics, minister for innovation and technology, at the establishing event last year.
